This sofa had a very big black mark on the head rest, this is body perspiration.
When sitting on your sofa and sweating your sweat soaks into the crevices of the sofa. This eats away at the leather in the sofa causing what looks like marks on it.
Once the process of the eating away at the leather has started it is subject to getting worse.
In order to prevent body perspiration and colour loss leather repairs London recommends cleaning your sofa with the cleaner kit you was provided with when sold the sofa and applying protection cream.
The protection cream creates a barrier between you and the sofa so when you sit on it the sweat soaks into the protection cream rather than the leather. If you do this every 6 months body perspiration and colour loss damage will be prevented.
Once the damage is done you will require a clean and colour restoration as you need to clean the sofa to pull out all the dirt and sweat. Leather repairs London offer this service and once they have cleaned the area in which the damage is done our technician will restore the colour to the area to match the rest of the sofa.
Repairing The Damage
Therefore if your sofa has already been subject to the body perspiration damage it needs to be repaired. In order to repair the body perspiration damage the technician first cleans the area that is damaged with leather cleaner. This is to remove any pesticides. Once the damaged area has been cleaned the technician preps the area. After the area had been prepped the technician uses a lint free cloth to apply a base coat of dye. Then the technician goes on to apply evenly spread coats of dye. After the technician has sprayed each layer of colour they dry them with a hairdryer. Finally the last layer is applied of lacquer which seals the repair.
Once completed the area needs to be left for at least 1 hour until it is dry enough to touch. This is if the customer wishes to have a closer look at the repair however we do not recommend it. The area should then not be used for approximately 48 hours. This depending on how much colour and filler is applied during the repair and on how much damage there was.
We advise that all leather is cleaned and protected every six months. This allows the leather to stay clean and fresh. The protection cream gives that extra barrier between the wear and tear and the sofa.
Cleaning kits are always recommended after every repair. This to help enable you to maintain your leather from future damage. Please feel free to ask any questions they are happy to give you help and guidance that you may require.
